Success Stories!

Dan from Iraq writes:

My Name is Dan and I'm currently serving over here in Iraq. I just recently got done watching the CARNIVALE Season 1 and WOW I absolutly Love it. I was probably just as pissed and mad as anyone else was when episode 12 showed but see boy oh boy am i ever glad there is a second season to it! cuz if that was the ending I would be forever upset. So I'm really glad there is a second season but i'm still depressed that who knows when I'll be able to see season 2 since I don't really have television out here and defently no HBO so that really blows. I'm gonna have to see if i can find someone to get me some burned copyies or something. anyways Thought i'd let you know that I'm a Huge Fan of the show and it is what kept my mind off from being here in this shitty place.

I have 7 year old grandson, while he is not interested in such an adult themed show, I was not concerned about him walking into talk to me or spend time playing in the same room if I were watching an episode.  Carnival, while not a show for the whole family, is wholesome enough. The adult situations simply go over the head of most children.  Also they are relevant to the story, not just gratutious sex and violence every five min. for sake of it.  The show is fun, fun, fun, I am going to really miss it.  I hope they come out with the second season on dvd. OH, I should mention,  I don't have HBO, I was bought the first season for a BD present, and now most likely won't bother getting HBO.  Rome is not bad, but I can't stand DeadWood.

In conclusion, (about time), I will write good long letters and support the cause all I can.

Hey guys, great job with the site!

I'm living in the UK and am, of course, a big fan of the show; i've got season one on DVD and followed season 2 over the net. Just wanted to let you guys know me and my friends have been doing what we can over here to help with the "save Carnivale" effort. I started out by showing my good friends season one and getting them hooked but my main plan, im really pleased with.

My birthday is coming up and i've managed to convince all my friends (even those who have never heard of Carnivale) to buy THEMSELVES the DVD's instead of getting me something. They think im crazy but if increased DVD sales and making some more fans could lead to a season 3, then that's a good enough present for me! Those of them that are already hooked are upset about the shows cancellation and will also try to do what they can to spread the word.
I know it's nothing major but i've got quite a few friends so i hope this will help with all the hard work you guys are doing. Good luck with the CarnyCon's, the letters and the petitions etc, don't give up!
Carnivale was the best thing on TV since Twin Peaks (which was also canceled after 2 seasons). My family and friends would get together every week to watch the show and discuss it afterwards. I am so disappointed that HBO thinks that they have actually "explained everything that needs to be explained". Who are they kidding?   Carnivale did not get over to my friends in England until cancellation was eminent, and, of course, they loved it (they are in Season 1 right now on their cable system). Everyone I have talked to that has seen this show loves it! When I called HBO, I made sure they knew why I was canceling my subscription and they tried to sell me on their new series "Rome". You're joking right? I told them politely that Carnivale was the only reason we signed up for HBO in the first place. I also made sure to email HBO and let them know that they lost out on lots of potential viewers because they canceled such an innovative and wonderful show. We have all been waiting feverishly for Season 2 to come out on DVD.....do they know what they had? I am really glad that there are other people out there just as incensed as we are about this show's cancellation. There are many of us who would like to attend CarnyCon...could you send me some info about this? Thanks!

Hey guys, you need more representation from england! the second season has just kicked off over here so ive been trying my damndest to get my season boxset around all my friends to get em up to speed (ive sat and watched it gain and again with them all to make sure they stick with it). carnivale is the most outrageously unbelievably amazing tv show these eyes have ever seen. i was watchin the series unfold with you guys in the us via the ol internet.
obviously i purchased the boxset too to support the show. we've got a steadily growing army of 15 people so far who are angry, upset, bemused about hbo's decision, but more importantly theyre addicted, signing up for petitions etc. so come on....im surely eligible to be an official roustie with my constant promotion of or show. you also need more male rousties, every roustie of the month seems to be a female. lets show how diverse we all are. cheers guys, keep up the stellar work on all fronts

Trish from Memphis writes:
I have watched Carnivale since it first came on HBO, I was actually anticipating it.  I knew it was going to be great, and was devastated when it was cancelled.  Since then I have held viewing parties and have so far converted 12 people onto season 1 and am waiting on season 2 dvd's to finish the story! Hopefully we will see a resolution in the story in months to come!

Josh aka Kaya writes:
Hey guys, couldn't make it into the chat tonight but on the bright side I was at a friends house getting two of my friends into Carnivale. These are the last two people who I thought would ever get into any kind of television series but they seem to have really enjoyed it and want to view more episodes. They were also bewildered as to why it was canceled and also they said they would have watched
it if they would have known it was on. BTW anyone have the email addresses for the HBO execs so I can forward them to my friends?

How I Got Hooked:
I was bored flipping the channels one night and landed on one of the early episodes of Season 2.  I think it was one of the most catching episodes where Ben meets the "hilibilies" that he finds out he is related to.  After that my husband and I watched the following episode and liked it also.  I enjoyed it so much I bought Season 1 on eBay.  I kept watching Season 2 while waiting on Season 1 to arrive.  We watched Season 1 in record time trying to catch up while watching Season 2.  At the end I was so excited for Season 3 to come as it was left WIDE open for more story!  Then I found out that it was cancelled!  What a let down.  I kept reading articles that said they had resolved everything and it was only meant for two seasons and the story line was already done.  I wondered where this information was coming from because they obviously didn't see the last 5 minutes of Season 2!

Spreading The Word:
So, I passed my season 1 box set to my friend.  She and her husband watched it and LOVED it too!  When I told her they cancelled it she was really upset too!

I let my co-worker borrow it too.  He had his daughter home from the service so they both watched it together in only 1-2 weeks!  That ought to tell you how much they liked it!

I keep passing Season 1 around to share what a wonderful series this is.  I have a few more people in mind.

I plan on buying Season 2 to have in my collection-I like it THAT much!  I don't ever buy series!

What I'm Doing Now:

I plan on sharing this wonderful series to all those I think would find it interesting.  I also plan on joining in on the tarot card campaign as soon as I get a chance to go buy a deck.

Two at least...was at the video store (up here in Gibsons, BC,
Canada...little podunk town that carries Carnivale) and asked the young man behind the counter if he had seen it. He said he had seen one episode and enjoyed it and his mother was hooked and had watched all of season one. He said they would buy season two as soon as it came out. I told him season two rocked and that it was now cancelled. He said
his mother and her friends would be very upset and why would they do such a thing. We talked for awhile and he said he would tell his mother about this list. He was amazed that Dan would come on and communicate with the fans. The young man said he was taking season one home tonight to start watching and he was having some friends over.
Yahooooo!

I remember the first time I saw the first episode of Carnivale... I was instantly hooked.  My wife was unsure of the idea of watching the show, her being a Religion major graduate.  After catching some of the shows with me, she had more questions than I had answers for her.  We would catch the show twice on Sunday (HBO East & HBO West) and the encore presentation during the week.  We would recap what had happened so far when they would show the recap (back-to-back-to-back episodes) on select Saturdays.  In all, we fell in love with the show and were anticipating the next season.

Last summer, we moved from California to Illinois.  It was an unfortunate event... we moved in with my in-laws for the short time.  My in-laws did not subscribe to HBO.  It wasn't until February of this year we found a place to buy of our own.  I was excited... I knew I have already missed half season of Canivale 2 but I kept updating myself off the official website.  Once we move in to our new home, I immediately subscribed to cable. Carnivale was on my set for at least six more episodes.  And those six episodes were memorable.  The fact that Brother Justin was to meet his fate once he faced Hawkins let me know I had yet to miss the best of Carnivale S2.

I knew Sophie had some importance to Carnivale (other than being a tarot card reader).  I knew it since season one.  My wife and I were with open jaws when we found out she was brother Justin's daughter.  But to find out in the last moments of its final episode that she would resurrect her dead father... Wow!!!

Greetings Carnies, and thanks for the welcome to the boards.

First off, I've been admiring all of you for a while, and your valiant efforts to bring back this great show that we all loved. I've been an avid fan since season 1, and have everyone I know hooked on it. Even my mom, who only watches Lifetime, television for women. If everyone I knew had a Nielsen box, well, we probably wouldn't have to be having this talk right now.

Hello all! My name is Christina, and I wanted thank you for having me. I have been a member of the CarnivaleHBO group for some time, and have been sending my cards for over a month now (speaking of, Julie, I'm almost out. Can I get some more and keep going?) I have been doing
my best to save Carnivale. I talk about it constantly, most of time under the ridicule of others because it seems to be all I talk about. I am getting friends together for Carni Casts and also have been talking to friend with connects at HBO and Time Warner. He also has friends at MGM and Paramount (who are potential buyers if HBO decides to sell am I right) So, with that I will thank you again for having me and I hope that my contribution to this group and to the save Carnivale
effort will not go unrecognized.

i recently converted my mom, aunt and grandmother. there is nothing about carnivale that any of them would like, so i've never told them about the show. my mother knew it was my favorite show though. after complaining about not wanting to go, she went with me to the prop sale last weekend and loved it. after complaining about my spending on the drive up, she loaned me money to buy a chair. she found the whole thing so interesting that after we got home, she wanted to watch my dvd. i was completely shocked. then she told her mother and sister who then got ahold of a dvd and now they like it too. they like to do things that make them feel close to us since they live a ways away. my brother and a couple of friends, who have watched a couple episodes when it was on hbo, are now watching my dvd to check for things i
got at the prop sale.

I just wanted to share that I have gotten a group of 7 of my friends together (we range in age from 20-28) who were previous "Carnivale-virgins", to have a "Carnivale night" at my home. I have Season 1 on DVD and the Season 2 premiere on tape. We have been getting together every week and just finished the collection. But now I have an angry mob of friends after me, begging for more! So I turned them to your site and all of us have written letters and emails to HBO execs. My roommate and I were once the sole Carnivale fans of our group of friends and now, we're like a pack of salivating dogs, waiting for more...and if we don't get it...watch out we might turn vicious! hahahah

I wanted to thank you all SO MUCH for giving us this outlet to help. I work in the independent film industry and to see a show like Carnivale get cancelled, and see a show like Desperate Housewives receive 15 Emmy nods, makes me sick to my stomach-- a true sign of how far the entertainment industry has fallen.

Thanks again and keep up the awesome work!

I had a small success today, but every little bit helps, right? At my work, which is a definite industry gathering point, Clancy was kind enough to sign a Carnivale poster. I’ve got it hanging directly behind the register, so basically, you HAVE to see it. I get tons of comments on it ranging from “I hate HBO for canceling it” to “What do you mean it’s CANCELLED?!?!?” I always tell everyone who comments on it about savecarnivale.org and the mailing campaigns. Today I had a nice gentleman get really worked up over the cancellation. He left vowing to email and mail HBO at once. I thought you guys would like to know that I’m doing my best to get the word out everyday!

It does work. A month ago my aunt who introduced me to
Carnivale we got together and started a viewing party
in Riverside CA. We started with 4 people now we are
up to 9 people! We are even having 1930's dinners with
the viewing. It is great watching the face of these
people who are getting the joy out of the show for the
first time. I will be honest to say we lost two people
they were not into supernatural. But, we gained 5 from
those to leaving!

Julie writes:
First, I run a networking group in the DC area for entrepreneurs. Last month, we had a business coach speak to our group and I ended up talking to her about Save Carnivale. I got a message from her today: "Had a
great time last month, thank you for inviting me to speak to the group. By the way, my eldest daughter gave hubby the "WWBJD" t-shirt for Father's Day - what a hoot!" More free advertising provided by Carnivale fans.

Second, I lent my dvds to friends on Saturday morning hoping they would watch even one episode of the show. I got a call back on Monday evening; they had watched ten solid hours of Carnivale over two days (the last dvd was on top of my player so they didn't get to see the whole season yet!). They just loved it and have promised to send tarot cards right away. My brother is my next on my Carnivale radar.

Dan writes:
I'm a success story. My girlfriend showed me Carnivale's first season on "On Demand" and I loved it. We watched alot of season 2 together as a result. I loved the show.

Drea writes:
I've been a busy girl, hijacking everyone I know to watch the show. So far, I've gotten both parents, the boyfriend, two good friends, and a co-worker obsessed with the show. I get the DVDs off Netflix, so I've got to wait between disks, and every day I've got four or five messages on my voicemail asking if the next episodes are in.

Plus, the guy who got me hooked on the show has been hosting viewing parties at his house every Sunday night. We've since gotten his mother hooked as well. Everyone is so angry that HBO canceled the show, and have seen the Save
Carnivale site. So that's seven new converts that will spread the word about the campaign!

Bethanie writes:
I just wanted to thank everyone for their hard work!  My friend gave me Season I for my birthday last week at a party and there were lots of folks there who didn't know anything about Carnivale (imagine that!!!!)....So now I am loaning out my set to those folks to get them on our mission to bring back the best show on TV!  Thanks and Thanks!   After watching Season I....made me want to work harder on getting back on TV....I miss this SHOW.

Thought I'd share this little anecdote to show how easy it is to strike up a conversation about Carnivale in public. Last night my husband and I took our 2-yr-old to her first baseball game in Atlantic City. I had purchased a Jonesy Lives t-shirt for her from Cafe Press and thought this would be the perfect opportunity for her to wear it.

We weren't in our seats 10 minutes before the guy sitting in front of us turned and said, "Jonesy? From Carnivale?" I was so excited! It even works for kids! It was a real "They got cars!" moment for me!

Turns out the guy didn't know the show was cancelled and hopefully he'll join us soon!

Special thanks to daughter Delaney who was a great sport and even modeled the back of the shirt for us. A great time was had by all...up to the point when a foul ball flew past her head and scared the bejesus out of her!!!

It's that easy, Children! Shake some dust!
